A life update

My baptism was an awesome experience. I will get some pics up as soon as I can. I was able to share a short testimony about how Christ has change my life. After the baptism we had about 30 minutes of prayer and fellowship.

Thanksgiving was good. We have so much to be thankful for this year. The Lord has blessed us in so many ways. All in all it was a pretty good extended weekend. We got to spend time with family and friends (Also the Huskers won. Go Big Red!). I hope that everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving.

I started working new hours today. These new hours will allow more time in the evening with Avril and will allow us to go our church's Tuesday night prayer meeting.

I hope everyone has a blessed week.

Baptism

Over at GotQuestions.org the question "I was baptized unbiblically. Do I need to be rebaptized?" was posed. This is a subject that is close to me right now because I was sprinkled when I was an infant. I have been a Christian for about 4 years now and just recently I have felt called to be baptized biblically. Tomorrow night I will doing just that. I am really excited for this. I will try to remember to have my wife take some pics and I will post them here.

Were fossils created ex nihilo during Creation Week?

About a month ago Answers in Genesis answered some feedback regarding this subject. The following question was submitted:

There is another possible explanation regarding fossils and Dinosaurs... I don't see it as a lame attempt at trying to fit creationism into science... it is the very real possibility that the earth was created with age just as Adam was and that the fossils and the geological formations we see came into existence the day the earth was made.

Making the simple complex

By: Dave Burchett

Today I sat through an annual corporate seminar for a broadcast network. The seminar concluded with a long presentation on diversity, sexual harrassment, and creating a non-hostile workplace atmosphere. I understand and support the need for such a program. But I have to admit that somewhere around the forty-five minute mark I started thinking that the Apostle Paul could have accomplished this seminar in about oh 2 minutes. Two passages pretty much would have covered everything that had been laid out in painstaking and lengthy detail. Here is my fantasy Human Resources seminar with Paul.

Hi, my name is Paul from Tarsus. I was asked to stand in for the HR director. First of all, here is a little policy I wrote for the Ephesians.

But among you there must not be even a hint of sexual immorality, or of any kind of impurity, or of greed, because these are improper for God's holy people.

Nor should there be obscenity, foolish talk or coarse joking, which are out of place, but rather thanksgiving. For of this you can be sure: No immoral, impure or greedy person - such a man is an idolater - has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.

Got that?

Cool.

And this one worked well for the Philippians.

Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves. Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others.

Any questions? Okay. Have a nice day. I have tents to make and letters to write.

I have been in meetings like that too. They can spend hours on a subject that, as Mark wrote, can be summed up quite simply if we follow the truth of God. Unfortunately we live in a world that hates the truth.

I find is somewhat sad that there will be some grand annoucement based off of some case study about human nature or relationships and everyone goes "oooo" and "ah" over it. If they would have looked to source of truth (God) in the first place they probably could have saved themselves alot of time. The fact of the matter is that the bible is the guide book to our lives.

Mark Driscoll on the recent Ted Haggard news

Along with discussing the situation of Ted Haggard, the latest post from Mark includes some very good suggestions for all men in a leadership role in their church. The culture that we live in is so saturated with every kind of sexual immorality that Christian leaders need to constantly guard their hearts and minds from it. Keeping their focus on Christ is key. Also I think that the suggestions Mark has laid out are very good and anyone in a leadership position should seriously consider implementing.

As every pastor knows, we are always at risk from the sin in us and the sinful temptations around us. Pastoring in one of America’s least churched cities to a large number of single, young people has been an eye-opening experience for me. I started the church ten years ago when I was twenty-five years of age. Thankfully, I was married to a beautiful woman. I met my lovely wife Grace when we were seventeen, married her at twenty-one, and by God’s grace have been faithful to her in every way since the day we met. I have, however, seen some very overt opportunities for sin. On one occasion I actually had a young woman put a note into my shirt pocket while I was serving communion with my wife, asking me to have dinner, a massage, and sex with her. On another occasion a young woman emailed me a photo of herself topless and wanted to know if I liked her body. Thankfully, that email was intercepted by an assistant and never got to me.

World Vision

I would like to draw some attention to World Vision's Gift Catalog. Please pray about helping out in any way you can this Christmas.

Matthew 25:34-40
“Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father, inherit the Kingdom prepared for you from the creation of the world. For I was hungry, and you fed me. I was thirsty, and you gave me a drink. I was a stranger, and you invited me into your home. I was naked, and you gave me clothing. I was sick, and you cared for me. I was in prison, and you visited me.’

“Then these righteous ones will reply, ‘Lord, when did we ever see you hungry and feed you? Or thirsty and give you something to drink? Or a stranger and show you hospitality? Or naked and give you clothing? When did we ever see you sick or in prison and visit you?’

“And the King will say, ‘I tell you the truth, when you did it to one of the least of these my brothers and sisters, you were doing it to me!’
