Are you a loser?

Mark 8:34-36

Then he [Jesus] called the crowd to him along with his disciples and said: "If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me and for the gospel will save it. What good is it for a man to gain the whole world, yet forfeit his soul?"

Jesus taught that we must deny our earthly desires an submit to Him. This is a very difficult thing for any person to do because of our sin nature. We naturally want to be selfish and strive for the material things of this world. We can overcome these desires but we must give our lives to Christ. This all has to do with the relationship that He wants with us. He wants our whole selves not just a bit here and there when we think it is convenient. I will say again this is a hard thing to do. I struggle with it as much as any other person does. The key is prayer. If we continue to talk to God and surrender ourselves to Him everyday then we can truly gain a new life in Christ.

Other verses that pertain to this subject are:
Matthew 10:39
Matthew 16:25
Luke 9:24
Luke 17:33
John 12:25

Romans 6:11-14 also speaks on the subject of rejecting this life and submitting to God.

In the same way, count yourselves dead to sin but alive to God in Christ Jesus. Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body so that you obey its evil desires. Do not offer the parts of your body to sin, as instruments of wickedness, but rather offer yourselves to God, as those who have been brought from death to life; and offer the parts of your body to him as instruments of righteousness. For sin shall not be your master, because you are not under law, but under grace.

Here is a quick prayer that you can start out your day with to help you in your walk with Christ and lead a surrendered life.
"Heavenly Father, I give you control of my intellect, emotions, will, and body. I invite you to be Lord of my life in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ."

So I say be a loser and find your life in Christ.

The Truth Project

This weekend Avril and I had the opportunity to attend the Truth Project conference at the Focus on the Family headquarters in Colorado Springs. It was amazing. Avril and I plan on presenting the 12 week study in our current Bible study. We will be starting this in the beginning of September.
